Obituary of Joyce Dettweiler
On April 22, 2022, Joyce passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital following a brief illness.
Joyce enjoyed a life filled with family, friends, flowers and adventures. For over 30 years Joyce and Glenn worked together on the farm creating a successful herd of Holstein Friesan dairy cattle. Joyce and Glenn loved children and raised four of their own as well as opening their arms and door to nieces, nephews and friends who needed a home away from home. In 1969 the family drove to the West Coast exploring and visiting family along the way. This was the start of a lifelong love of travel. After Glenn died, Joyce continued to travel the world, visiting Australia and New Zealand, Africa, Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands to name a few favourites.
At home, Joyce spent summer days working in her constantly expanding flower gardens, taking particular pride in her collection of daylilies. Every day she took time to enjoy the birds at the feeders in her back yard. She looked forward to attending summer theater and concerts and was never afraid to try something new like canoeing the Grand River, going up at dawn in a hot air balloon, white water rafting, zip lining in Costa Rica, or eating mofongo in Puerto Rico. Cards, bowling, and walking with friends helped pass the winter days and a wet summer day was always a success when spent at a garden center or the mall. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchilden and great grandchildren, listening to their stories, watching their performances and playing games with them.
Predeceased by her husband and partner in dairy farming and child rearing, Glenn (1989), her parents Milton (1999) and Mary (2001) Lambke and sister June Schwartzentruber.(1984)
Lovingly remembered by her siblings, Janice Snider, Paul and Helen Lambke and Hubert and Mary Schwartzentruber.
Best mom ever to Mary and Ron, Ross and Gabriele, Lynn, Jim and Terri. Grandma to Heidi and Calvin, Peter and Tammy, Amy and Bryan, Lisa and John, Bryce and Jess, Sydney and Riley. Beloved “GG“ to Amanda, Sam, Meghan, Declan, Grace, Holly and Sophia.
A private family service and burial will be held at Breslau Mennonite Church. We invite family and friends to join us at a reception in June to remember and celebrate Joyce’s life. Details to follow.
