It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Irma E. Sidney age 90, on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Celtic Court in Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Ludwig and Eleanor (Krause) Kiri.
She grew up in Dominion, and after finishing school, she travelled to Toronto to work. Here, she met the love of her life, Bill. They returned to Cape Breton where he became a successful businessman and together, they raised five children. They were married for 67 years until his death in 2017.
Irma concentrated on being at home to raise her children, and loved gardening (especially roses), and had a passion for painting. For many years she was active in the UCW (United Church Women) of First United Church in Sydney. Over many winters, she and Bill travelled to the Caribbean and Florida with the “golf group”, but as her health declined, her quality of life was compromised and she was content to remain at home enjoying a quiet lifestyle. For the past several years, she resided at 4 North in the Glace Bay Hospital and then, Celtic Court in Sydney.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dan) Campbell, Halifax; sons, Bill (Carol Ann), Sydney River, Darrell (Heather), Coxheath, Robert (Krista), Halifax and Alan, Sydney River; sister, Elsie Wallner, Glace Bay; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” and brothers, Herbert and Henry “Sonny”.
Due to Covid, there will be no visitation. A private family service will take place in Sydney Memorial Chapel, with interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Special thanks for the excellent care mom received from the nurses and staff at Celtic Court in Sydney and on 4 North in the Glace Bay Hospital.
