“Stan the Man”
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Stanley Douglas Jollimore on April 17, 2022 at the age of 71.
Born on January 1st, 1951 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia to Walter (Doug) and Pat Jollimore, he moved with his parents to BC where his father built the family home on Columbia Avenue.
Most people will remember Stan for all of his years of service in the Castlegar School District as a bus driver – where he drove students from one end of the district to the other, and on field trips to the East Kootenays and to the Columbia Ice Fields. Committed to his family, his work, and the community, the students he drove were like his own kids – they meant the world to him. If they needed discipline, rest assured they would be spoken to. But Stan’s ability to give praise when praise was due was what made him a respected driver amongst the kids. Stan worked as a bus driver for 34 years until his retirement in 2008.
For those who knew him, Stan was always ready with a joke to tell and a big grin on his face. In his later years as his mobility became limited, he acquired a scooter and could be seen around his neighborhood, striking up a conversation with those who could spare the time. On many of these excursions, he had his “grandpup” Colby joining him – sitting between Stan’s feet and enjoying the ride.
Stan is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Darlene; his daughter Cindy (Chris) Ius; and daughter Brandie Jollimore. Also surviving him is his brother Terry (Alison) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Patricia and Doug Jollimore and his sisters, Sandra Montgomery and Debbie Jollimore. His greatest loss was that of his son, Clinton, in 2006.
A private family service was held April 26th, 2022 with internment at Park Memorial Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Stan’s Life held at a later date.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Stanley Douglas Jollimore April 17th 2022..
