Capt Hubert Gordon Hall Tuesday April 19th 2022

Capt. Hubert Gordon Hall passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022, at home with his wife and family by his side. Born October 24, 1937, in Beaver River, N.S. he was a son to the late Benjamin and Frances Isabelle (Smith) Hall. He left home at the age of 17 to explore and pursue adventures on the sea, with The Mary Sweeney cargo ship, which would land him in such ports as Dublin, Liverpool ports along the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico. Along with his wife Helen, sailing the seas was his love and passion. Hubert started work on the MV Bluenose in 1956 and worked until retirement in 1991. In his spare time he was an avid bird watcher, collector of ship photos, enjoyed puzzles and writing travelogues, and up until this past winter would cut his own firewood. After retirement, Hubert and his wife whom he married in 1959 loved to take cruises, which took them to many islands including; Easter Island, Japan, Iceland, Greenland, Antarctica, and many tropical destinations. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Helen (Pearse) Hall; son, Timothy (Anne Mercer) Hall; daughter, Jennifer Hall; sisters, Carolyn (Mike) Bourque; Diane Goodwin; Susan (Kent) Bain; Elizabeth Murphy; step-grandson, Erik Garf; special sister-in-law, Barb Nicholl; and nieces, Deb Saulnier and Sue Nicholl. Besides his parents, Hubert was predeceased by his sister Joan Surette. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from 6-8 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at 11 A.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A. D. “Bill” Newell officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in Jacob’s Loft Event Center above Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Port Maitland/Beaver River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri Country V.O.N.
