CAMPHAUG Mildred Alberta nee Procter January 4 2022

CAMPHAUG, Mildred Alberta
On January 4, 2022, Mildred Alberta (Procter) Camphaug passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord in Edmonton at the age of 98 years. Mildred was born on November 17, 1923 in Balcarres, Saskatchewan.
Mildred spent her childhood with four siblings in Balcarres, Lethbridge, Rockglen, and Melfort as her father’s lumber business brought them to new towns. Mildred fondly remembered playing in the rolling hills of Rockglen with her siblings and said she always had her head in a book.
The family left Melfort for Calgary in 1940, where she graduated from Crescent Heights Senior High School in 1942. Calgary was Mildred’s favourite city with happy memories in the years to come. In Calgary, she worked as a comptometer operator tracking inventory for grain companies. She once worked in Toronto for six months at a tire factory.
In Calgary, Mildred met Roy Camphaug of Cabri, Saskatchewan at a dance, where they sparked conversation and Roy walked her home after the dance. They married on August 30, 1952 at St. Stephen’s Chapel in Calgary.
Roy’s work in the RCMP brought the family to cities including Calgary, Smoky Lake, Leduc, and Edmonton. Their son Kenneth Roy was born in 1956, Pamela Gale in 1961, and Janet in 1964. The family lived in a house in Elmwood, Edmonton from 1967 until each of the children began their own families. Mildred loved her cats Sinbad and Billy.
Mildred remained close with her sisters even when they lived in different provinces. She travelled regularly with Mae and Muriel and shared Christmas dinner with her sister Vera’s family every year until they moved to Ontario.
Her beloved Roy passed away on December 30, 1987. He had built many features in their house in Edmonton that Mildred lovingly cared for in the decades to come. Her son Ken passed away in 2015.
Every birthday and holiday celebration brought Mildred’s children and grandchildren together at her house in Edmonton, in which she lived for over 50 years. In the past three years she lived at the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre, where she made friends and participated in social activities. Her family supported her with daily visits bringing tea and cookies and enjoying each others’ company.
Mildred is lovingly remembered by her daughters Pamela (Russel) and Janet; and grandchildren Steven, Jennifer, Graeme, Rachel, Bryan, Evan, and Julianne. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Roy; son Ken; siblings Muriel, Mae, Robert, and Vera; and parents Albert and Mary.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10 at North Pointe Community Church (14025 167 Ave NW) with Pastor Michael Voll officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Roy. Livestream for those who cannot attend in person: fb.me/e/222kTYdZf. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
