Harvey Pitman was born November 18, 1933 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland and passed away with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with dementia on April 13, 2022 in Trail, BC.
Harvey was married to Rhona Cook in 1958 and raised their three children in Glenmerry. He worked as a civil engineer at Teck Resources for 30 years before marrying Joan Kearley and moving back to Newfoundland.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed canoeing, hiking, and snowshoeing. He spent lots of time camping with his family in his younger years.
Harvey was an outstanding member of the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and spent lots of time repairing things there. He enjoyed helping with men’s brunches at the church in St. John’s, Newfoundland in his later years. While in Trail he was a member of the ITC and the West Kootenay Naturalist Club. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and helping his families in Trail and St. John’s with home repairs.
Together in his retirement with his wife Joan, they travelled to many places.
He was predeceased by his wife Rhona in 1999, wife Joan in 2020, and his brother Herman Pitman in 2016. Harvey is survived by his children; Elizabeth, Len (Valerie) and David (Audrey), grandchildren; Cecilee (Craig), Emma (Andrew), Mariah (Mark), Jessica, Mitchell and Thomas Pitman, great-grandchildren; Lily and Finn McDonald and Max and Lauren Flanagan, sister-in-law Edith Pitman, niece Tricia (Larry) Bell, nephews Bob (Shirley-Anne) Pitman, Tim (Becky) Pitman and families. He is also survived by Joan’s children; Alan (Jennifer), Shawn (Susan) and Louise (Cam) and her three grandchildren.
A Funeral Service for Harvey will be held on Thursday, April 21, at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Trail with Canon Neil Elliot officiating. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
