Passed away at Clarion Nursing Home, on Sunday, April 17, 2022, in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Luigi (1989). Loved mother of Maria Scattolon (the late Silvano), Angela DiPietro (Natale), Concetta Zary (Lyle), Cesare Stanziani (Gabriela) and Jenny Stanziani (Richard Mietus). Cherished grandmother of Jill (Oz), Sylvia (Leo), Dean (Elisa), Julie (Evangelos), Daniela (Enda), Andrew (Melissa), Gianluca, Miranda and Mark, and great-grandmother of Francesco, Ciera, Tiana, Silvano, Cruz, Romeo, Jackson and Sophia. Dear sister of Nicola (the late Angela), the late Michele, (the late Maria and Lucia), the late Antonio (Maria), the late Carmelina (the late Lucio Melone) and the late Incoronata (the late Antonio DeSantis). Dear loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews in Canada and in Italy. Special thanks to the staff at Clarion Nursing Home and to Dr. Chris Ambis for their exceptional care and compassion. Giovanna and Luigi came to Canada so that their family could prosper. Their unending hard work, sacrifices and devotion to family, provided their family with opportunities and experiences of which Giovanna and Luigi could only dream. Giovanna will be lovingly remembered by all for her love of life, cooking, dancing, bocce, gardening, gathering with her family, her nonstop energy and her generous assistance to all. She will be dearly missed. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Thursday, April 28, from 3-5 and 6-9 p.m. Prayer Vigil will be held at 8:45 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek, on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As per the family’s request, we kindly and respectfully ask that all who attend the visitation or Funeral Mass to please wear a mask and practice social distancing. If desired, donations made in Giovanna’s memory to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul or to Alzheimer Society of Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
