Obituary
Zlatko “Duke” Zvekic
March 24 1947 – December 29 2020
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Zlatko “Duke” Zvekic. He moved to Nanaimo with his wife and youngest child in 2001. He retired from a programming career and focused on his real loves – music, running, and people. He joined local organizations including the Extension Volunteer Fire Department and the Songwriters Circle, involving himself in the vibrant community of the Island. He and his family had a good life on a small acreage farm they built up from an empty field into a little paradise. He continued to run races and marathons as well as play and study music until he was diagnosed with cancer in February 2020. He endured chemotherapy for many months but eventually succumbed to the disease.
He died peacefully listening to the voice of his youngest child reading Huckleberry Finn. He will be missed by his family and his many friends. He will stay in our hearts and minds forever.
Memorial donations may be made in Zlatko Zvekic’s memory to the Music Department at Vancouver Island University giving.viu.ca.
There will be no service, but feel free to sign the guestbook and enjoy his music at zzlatko.webs.com.
