Yvonne’s Obituary
(La version française suit)
DEVEAU, Yvonne – of Salmon River (Digby co.) passed away peacefully with members of her family by her side on Friday, November 5th 2021 at the age of 95 in La Villa Acadienne. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Martine (Comeau) Boudreau of Mavillette.
Nothing was more important to Yvonne than her family. The smell of her fresh homemade cookies, pies and bread that permeated our home will remain with us all forever.
Yvonne loved to tell stories. Relating her life experiences as an Acadian woman, her stories, rich in anecdotes and Acadian genealogy, provided a unique and interesting insight into 20th century life in Clare and New York.
Despite her large family and her work, including running a small business, she was recognized as a willing volunteer in her community particularly when it came to local youth and St. Vincent-de-Paul Parish activities.
She is survived by seven children: Marion, Pembroke; Elaine (Kent) Smith, Port Maitland; Robert (Linda) Deveau, Bridgwater; Jeannette (Jean) Blinn, St. Bernard; Michael (Brenda) Deveau, Lake George; Kenneth (Denise Comeau), Comeauville; Sandra (Robert) Comeau, Rochester, NH; a brother, Alfred Boudreau, Concession; and two sisters, Lucille Steadman, Bridgewater, and Pauline Deveau, Salmon River.
Yvonne adored her 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Noah (dit Noé); a son, Paul (at birth); two brothers, Clovis and Clarence; two sisters, Emma Foley and Therese Gaudet; as well son in law, Bob Peterson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home. A funeral mass in Saint Alphonse Church, followed by interment in Saint Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Salmon River will be held on Thursday, November 11th at 2 p.m. with Father Mathieu Agbaya officiating. In accordance with current provincial pandemic restrictions, proof of vaccination will be required to attend.
Donations in Yvonne’s name may be made to Villa Acadienne Charitable Foundation.
