Willie Powell Gutzke November 4th 2021

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces Willie’s sudden peaceful passing while feeding his “chickens”, the quail in the backyard. He lived an honest life and always stood for what he believed.
Willie was born in Medicine Hat to Otto and Georgina Gutzke. They moved to the lower mainland in 1945 and then to Lumby in 1960. In 1969 (52 years ago) he married Kathleen Hornell, daughter of Maurice and Irene Miles. With this marriage he became an instant father, gifted with four children, all under the age of 9. His home which he created was his greatest accomplishment. Willie loved nature, animals, woodworking and a hard days work.
Willie is survived by his Wife Kathleen, Daughter Marilyn (Scott O’Laney) Amber & Josh Yurkowski, Hadley, Mia & Easton. Jeremy & Savannah Long, Cash, Emerson & Weylon. Son, David (Sheri) Hornell. Karen & Cole Derry. Liane & Drew Leger, Claire & Marissa. Daughter, Gladys (Larry Handley). Reed & Jess Handley. Evan & Delfina Handley, AJ, Freya, Illyria & Violet. Daughter, Wendy (Reynold Mazu) Melissa & Derek Martin, Jaxton. Rachel & Nick Hurley, Jennavieve, Hannah. Jason Van Wyk & Laura. Meghan & Earl Cox, Samual. Clayton Mazu. Brent Mazu & Bethany. His siblings Ruth, Marie, Hilda (Bill), Inga (Arnold), Elna, Arne (Jane), Linda and Sonja (Eugene) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Emma, grandchildren Andrew and Renee.
Willie has requested that there be no celebration of life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
