William (Bill) Paul Szlauko
On January 25, 2021 Bill Szlauko passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at Rainy River Hospital.
He was born to Paul and Anna Szlauko in Deerlock, Ontario on February 25, 1934.
Bill was a faithful member of the Knox United Church, The Rainy River Legion, the curling club and the Baudette Moose.
Back in 1953 he hired on with CN Rail, first as a fireman, then as an engineer. He loved his job of 38 ½ years and still enjoyed watching the trains go by from his dining room window.
Bill was certainly a man with many talents, his love for music, he was able to play many instruments; the building of his cabin with his son, and many curling bonspiels. Bill traveled with family from coast to coast enjoying Canada and convoys with friends. A life well lived.
He loving left behind his wife Gayleen (Gunderson) whom he married 61 years ago at Knox United Church in Fort Frances; his brother John (Eleanor) of Quesnel B.C., his children Bob Szlauko, Sandy Spence (Tim), grandchildren Matthew, Torrie, Tyler and Paige, brother-in-law’s Glen Gunderson, Morley Gunderson (Melanie) and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his youngest daughter Coreen, son-in-law’s Ken and Mark, sister-in-law Silvia Gunderson, his parents Paul and Anna Szlauko, in-law’s Magnus and Ann Gunderson.
A service to be announced at a later date.
