Obituary
It’s with great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of William James Yellow Old Woman on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, in Calgary, Alberta at 49 years. Willy was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 14th, 1972. William is reunited with his beloved pastor John Hodge, who led him to the Lord through Vacation Bible School.
William was our brother, uncle, nephew, and to some a son. He is survived by his siblings; Fay Oakford of Toronto, Esther (aka Wanda) McMullen from the USA and Sheldon (Robin) Yellow Old Woman of Siksika Nation; and his nieces and nephews he cherished are Jessica, David, Wynona, Sadie, Joel, Josiah, Ethan, Raegan, Angelina, Zechariah, Malachi, Scarlett, and Cage. Willy will be greatly missed by Auntie Eve, Uncle Vincent, Aunt Vicki, and Uncle Eddie, also numerous family, and friends. Robert and Gwen Bear Chief took him as a son and their children took him as a brother.
William came from a large family and likely we will forget some names, but we apologize in advance. The Mayfields, Winnipeg, McMaster, Yellow Horse, Raw Eater, Desjarlais, Yellow Old Woman, Turning Robe, Naldrets, McMullen, Pretty Young Man, Poor Eagle, Old Woman families. He was loved by many of his helping and giving nature as well as his smile.
William was predeceased by his parents, Angelina Yellow Old Woman and Charles Allan Desjarlais and his grandma Betsy and his grandpa Ed and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Wake and funeral services will be held at the Gordon “Piiksapii” Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour. The wake will begin at 5:00pm on
Sunday, December 12th, 2021, and the funeral begins at 11:00am on December 13th, 2021. We will lay him to rest at the Canon Stockton Cemetery in Siksika Nation.
