William’s Obituary
William Henry Veidt, long-time resident of Grimshaw, Alberta, passed away on January 31, 2021 in Peace River at the age of 83 years. Bill was born on June 23, 1937 at Berwyn, Alberta.
Bill was a life-long farmer in the Grimshaw area, on the same land that his father homesteaded in 1911. In addition, he rented a quarter-section for many years from his Aunt Mary Wolfram and family, then later another quarter from Bruce Donis. He was also proud of the family’s venture into purebred cattle as V-Alta Simmentals.
In addition to farming, Bill enjoyed active participation in the local 4-H club and in his church. For many years he was a councilor for the M.D. of Peace, as well as for the East Grimshaw Rural Water Co-op. In his later years, he got more involved in gardening and also became quite the cook, searching the internet for new recipes to try. He was also able to take the trip of a lifetime during his retirement, travelling on the Rocky Mountaineer train to Vancouver, then via ship to Alaska and back!
But most of all, Bill loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing pleased him more than spending time with them and watching them grow. They gave him the biggest smiles and pride!
Bill Veidt was predeceased by his wife Joan, his parents George and Bertha Veidt, his sister Dorothy, and brother Charles. He is survived by his sister Helen Duholke, brother George Veidt (Eula), brother Victor Veidt, sister-in law Margie Veidt, brother-in-law Gerry Mears (Brenda), sister-in-law Nancy Sanford, children Sheila Veidt (Doug), Brian Veidt, and Lisa Palfy (Kyle), along with eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two more great-grandchildren on the way!
Funeral services for the late William Henry Veidt were held February 5, 2021 from the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home with the Very Reverend Jason Haggstrom officiating. Interment followed at the Grimshaw W.I. Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories Funeral Homes, Peace River.
