1948-2021
À son domicile de Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac, le 21 avril 2021, William Hendershot a succombé au cancer agressif qui l’a foudroyé durant la dernière année. Sa conjointe, Hélène Lalande et son fils, Félix étaient à ses côtés pour l’accompagner.
Il laisse aussi dans le deuil sa sœur Mary (Harry Miller), ses nièces et neveu Janet Kendall-Wheeler et Peter Kendall, Sarah Miller et Catherine Miller-Mort ainsi que leurs enfants et ses belles-sœurs préférées, Sylvie et Marie-Claude Lalande.
Professeur retraité de l’Université McGill, il laisse derrière lui plusieurs générations d’étudiants gradués qui l’ont rendu si fier.
William était un passionné de la course à voile (CDVM). Ses nombreux amis du circuit de régates vogueront pour lui.
La famille tient à remercier sincèrement l’équipe de soins palliatifs à domicile de la Dre Annick Terret-Hans (Valérie, Philippe et bien d’autres) pour l’extraordinaire dévouement avec lequel ils ont supporté William et ont su respecter ses volontés.
Dans les circonstances, la famille préfère reporter la célébration de vie de William à un moment plus approprié.

At his home in Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac, on April 21st, 2021, William Hendershot succumbed to the aggressive cancer that he fought over the last year. His spouse, Hélène Lalande, and his son, Felix, were constantly and devotedly at his side.
He will be deeply missed by his sister Mary (Harry Miller) and by his nieces and nephew, Janet Kendall-Wheeler and Peter Kendall, Sarah Miller and Catherine Miller-Mort as well as by their children, who will always remember their Uncle Willy. His sisters in law Marie-Claude and Sylvie Lalande will remember his friendship fondly.
A retired McGill University Professor, he leaves behind numerous generations of graduate students that made him so proud.
Will was passionate about sailboat racing. His many friends from the regattas will now sail for him.
The family wishes to thank the at-home palliative care team of Dr Annick Terret-Hans (Valérie, Philippe and many others) for the extraordinary devotion with which they supported Will and for their respect of his wishes.
A celebration of Will’s life will be held for friends and family once pandemic restrictions ease.

I was shocked and sadden to learn of Will’s passing and extend my deepest sympathies to you both. I enjoyed my many conversations and friendship with both Will (and you to Helene) while I was at McGill.
