William Frederick Irving Friday August 6th 2021

Irving, William Frederick
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of William (Bill) Frederick Irving who passed away suddenly on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the age of 95. Bill Irving was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Dunlop) Irving (1995). He was the loving father of Tom and his wife Linda, Kim and her husband Mike (Goetz), Peter and his wife Sandra, and the late Fred (1988). Bill was the proud grandfather of Kayla, Jessica and her husband Brad (Wylde), Grant, and Brendan, as well as the great-grandfather of Jade and Jordyn. He was the dear brother of the late Eric Irving and is survived by his sister-in-law Evelyn Bauman and by his nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, Bill was dedicated to serving his country and his community. He was a veteran of WWII, where he first worked in the Royal Canadian Air Force and then served in the Canadian Army as a combat engineer. Bill continued on as a Legion member for 41 years. After the birth of his first son, Fred, Bill actively advocated for people with special needs and became a founding member of Community Living Guelph Wellington. He was a lifelong member of St. Georges Anglican Church, where he was a member of Young Peoples, Men’s Club, and Chi Rho Fellowship. He also served as People’s Warden, starting in 1986. Bill worked at Imperial Tobacco for 30 years and became a foreman through his hard work and ability to lead and connect with others. After his retirement, he joined the Guelph Wellington Men’s Club, which met weekly at the Italian Canadian Club.
Bill’s calendar was always full with hobbies that he loved. As an avid skier, he spent many winters on the slopes and even worked as a ski patroller and instructor at Corwhin Ski Club. He never let the winter stop him from improving his golf game either, as he moved his weekly golf games indoors to play year-round. In the summer months, Bill always had the most beautiful gardens, and he impressed others with his endless knowledge of different types of plants, birds, and waterways. His knowledge didn’t end there, as he loved going on long country road trips and amazed others with his ability to memorize every road and turn he had ever driven. He truly did live every day to its fullest by doing what he loved until the day that he passed. His family and friends are so grateful to have had the chance to learn from him and share his passions with him.
Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, a private visitation and service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1 p.m. Interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph.
