William’s Obituary
NEW GLASGOW – William David “Bill” Alexander, 76, New Glasgow, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at home with his wife by his side.
Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., he was a son of the late William Thomson “Jock” and Mary Sephy (Adams) Alexander. Bill was a graduate of the former Teachers College, Truro, St. F.X. University, Antigonish (B.A., B.Ed.) and Dalhousie University, Halifax (M.Sc.). Bill taught science at Westville High School for 32 years, a career he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a caring instructor who empowered his students to learn. Bill enjoyed fly fishing and tying. Two of his greatest pleasures were, tying a fly and next day, standing in a river casting his line, surrounded by the beauty of nature. He was an early proponent of “catch and release”. Bill was most humbled by the award he received from the Royal Canadian Humane Association in 1964 for his action to rescue a young boy in 1962 from drowning, even though he could not swim himself. Throughout his life, he always strived to do his best and always endeavoured to see “both sides” of any situation or issue. Bill sought wisdom over riches, lived selflessly and loved unconditionally.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Sharon (MacGill) Alexander; sisters, Jane (Robert) MacMillan, New Glasgow; Judy (Sheldon) Dickie, Trenton; brother, Robin (Frances) Alexander, Trenton; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Art Alexander.
In honour of Bill’s wishes, his life will be celebrated privately.
