William Cruickshank
1923-2021
It is with sadness but appreciation for
a life well lived that the family of William Cruickshank announce his
passing at High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, NS on November 29,
2021. Known to his friends and family as Bill, he was born
in Alford, Scotland on June 2, 1923, to the late Thomas and Mary Ann
(O’Brien) Cruickshank. Their family immigrated to
Canada when he was four. He was the last surviving member of his
immediate family.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, his
first wife Della (Alward) Cruickshank (1997), daughter Bonnie Scott
(1980), sisters Louise Gregg, Charlotte Linfield and Christina Hicks;
brothers James and John.
He is survived by his second wife, Sally
Cruickshank, daughters Heather (Steve) Bradley, MaryEllen
(Michael) Taylor, Susan (Jeff) Guptill, son Peter (Kim) Cruickshank;
step daughters Mary (Wally) Chaulk, Joan (Bruce) Conrod , Cindy Paul,
Kathy (Chris) Smith, Patti (Carl) MacDonald, several grandchildren,
great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sister in law June
Cruickshank.
Bill served in the Canadian Armed Forces
in Italy and Sicily during World War II and like many others did not
want to discuss his war experiences upon his return. He lived most of
his life in Havelock and worked at the Canada Cement Plant until his
retirement. He was a long standing member of the Havelock Wesleyan
Church (now Centerpoint Wesleyan) and spent many hours helping build
the present building. It was one of many of his life time
accomplishments.
Our Dad was a faithful husband, father
and friend. He would always talk about his faith and the church, the
weather and gas prices. A lover of all animals, he loved
music, playing table games, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. His face
would always light up when he had visits from family and
friends.
Special thanks to the staff and nurses
at High Crest Nursing Home veterans wing for their care, kindness and
compassion to our Dad especially this past week.
A family Graveside Service will be held on
Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2 pm in Centerpoint Wesleyan Cemetery,
Havelock, with Rev. Glen McVicar officiating. Due to Covid-19, masks
will be mandatory for all in attendance. Arrangements are in care of
The Salisbury Funeral Home, (506-372-4800).
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers,
remembrances in Bill’s memory may be made to Havelock
Centerpoint Wesleyan Church.
