William ‘Billy’ Oscar Hitzig
March 31, 1948 – August 24, 2021
A full life of 73-years with many chapters and characters, Billy was born in Montreal to parents Thelma and Sam Hitzig. He moved to Toronto in the early 1980s where he met Mary Ann Freedman, the love of his life and wife of 37 years. A creative entrepreneur through and through and young at heart, Billy approached every opportunity with equal parts optimism and realism. He built a successful career manufacturing ladies and sports apparel for brands like Nike, Saks Fifth Avenue and Holt Renfrew.
Never one to sit idle, Billy played and loved just as hard as he worked. Billy spent summers playing tennis, golfing and water skiing on Lake Joseph. Winters were spent skiing and skating. Billy followed his passions around the globe, always with Mary Ann by his side – their favourite trip being Australia for Billy’s 65th birthday.
He’ll also be remembered for his love of music and art, often listening to the music of Fleetwood Mac, Lionel Richie and more.
In addition to his adoring wife, Billy peacefully leaves behind: three beloved children Nancy, Warren and Sander; a daughter-in-law Dafna; and two grandchildren, Sivan and Danny.
There will be a private family shiva.
