On the morning of Wednesday March 24, 2021, William “Bill” McDonald passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was born on December 21, 1946 in Woodstock, Ontario and grew up in a large family in Toronto. He came out west to Calgary with his wife, Mary and his two daughters in 1977. He enjoyed living life in the country in Bragg Creek and retired to High River.
Bill enjoyed being outdoors and had many fond memories camping with his family, hunting with his brother and father, trail riding, competing in cattle penning with his daughter Colleen, and fishing with his grandsons. He also enjoyed the art of oil painting and wine making. Although he would not say so himself, the tasters of his wine would consider him a master of his craft. He was involved in the construction of many large buildings as a sheet metal worker, especially enjoying his time in fabrication and as a foreman. Later, Bill found an interest in the major appliance business and started High River Appliance Service. He will be remembered in his work for his safety standards, being a good teacher and an ethical businessman. Friends and family will miss Bill for his entertaining story telling, words of wisdom, and caring ways.
Bill was a loving husband to Mary, wonderful father to Helen (Tiernan) and Colleen (Kurtis) and dedicated “Gramps” to treasured grandsons, Liam and Lauren. He also leaves behind family and long time friends in Ontario and B.C.
There will be a private family gathering because of health restrictions.
Bill’s family would like to thank the many caregivers involved with his care, including the AHS Palliative Team, Dr. Smillie, and the Foothills Country Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Foothills Country Hospice, www.countryhospice.org, or the charity of your choice.
….. and a parting message from Bill, “be careful on purpose”.
Caring for the family is Lyle Reeves Funerals of High River (Craig Snodgrass) 403.652.4242.
