William ‘Bill’ MacEachern
1930-2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
William A. “Bill” MacEachern, Trenton, NS, Sept. 16,
1930 – Aug. 5, 2021
Bill was a son of the late Fred and Edith MacEachern,
Trenton. He is survived by wife, Joan (MacNeil) of 67 years; his son,
Randy (Leslie), daughter, Rhonda (Rod Rafuse); grandchildren, Jonathan
Rafuse (Adrienne) and Jennifer Rafuse; great-grandchildren, Tova,
Harrison and Benjamin; brother, Rev. Dr. Doug MacEachern (June) and
sister, Margaret Fergus (Charlie).
Bill was devoted to the Town of Trenton, contributing in
several capacities including the role as Honorary Chair for the
Town’s 100th Anniversary. He was even made an Honorary
Constable for the Trenton Police. He was especially proud to have been
a member of the founding group Trenton Minor Sports Association that
fulfilled the dream of building Trenton’s own rink that
generations of families continue to enjoy. He was a pillar of the
First United Church, Trenton where he also served as Treasurer for
several years.
In 1962 he began his insurance career after having worked at
Hawker Siddeley, creating Atlantic Insurance and then a few years
later branched into the real estate industry forming HLM Realties. His
career led to numerous awards and accolades from both industries. He
served as President of The Insurance Brokers Association of Nova
Scotia and The Atlantic Alliance of Insurance Brokers.
Bill, as an individual, was recognized by the Nova Scotia
Association of Realtors® as one of the longest standing
members and his company, HLM Realties, as the longest acting real
estate brokerage in Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place. At Bill’s request, there
will be no visitations or service. Donations to the Trenton United
Church General Fund, Trenton Minor Sports, Children’s Wish
Foundation, a charity of your choice or a simple act of kindness would
be appreciated.
Thank you to Brian, Greg and Janet of the R.H. Porter Funeral
Home and his long-time friend and doctor, Dr. Spencer Barclay. Thank
you to the staff of Ivey’s Terrace for their excellent care
as well as the VON and the 4th Floor Aberdeen Hospital nurses for
their care and compassion.
Bill’s Favorite song
says it all – Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful
World,
“Oh
Yeah”
