Wilda Laurene Drummond (née Scarrow). (April 4. 1924- Dec. 3, 2021)
Passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Dec. 3, 2021 at the farm in Logan township where she and Arthur lived for 30 years and raised their 4 children.
She was very happy to see her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren over the last few months. She beamed when young children were near. She knew she was loved, and she knew where she was going.
Until very close to the end, she took pleasure from the flowers her son John always arranged on her table and in her room, hummed with the music that was played and sung around her, and relished every meal and snack.
Feisty and determined till the end, she had a good sense of what she wanted, what was right and wrong, and what was good or bad manners. She was a thankful person to the end.
Wilda and her family are thankful to those who offered regular care over the last months, Mary, Theresa, and Barb, and to our lovely Joy who has been an important part of Mom’s life for over two years. We are grateful to friends and neighbours who have offered food, prayers, rides, and other help to Wilda and her family over the years. Every kindness has been a blessing.
Mom was generous, an artist, a teacher, someone who spoke up….
She was a strong supporter of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the United Church of Canada (St. Pauls United Church in Milverton, Ont. where she was a member and Trinity United Church, Capreol). She also supported Stratford House of Blessing. In earlier days, she served on the school board that moved an area of one-roomed schools into the Upper Thames School and campaigned to have the school named after a river rather than a historic person. She wrote letters when poor local farming practices threatened the water table and the water quality of a community. Activist.
Wilda was predeceased by her parents Laurence and Alice Scarrow (neé Beatty) and her beloved husband Arthur Sinclair Drummond (1920-2009). Loved and missed by her family: children Faye Moffatt (Bryan), Valerie Hawkins (David), John Drummond, Glen Drummond (Kim Love), her grandchildren Ellen Pearce (Craig), Lynn Moffatt (George), Andrew Hawkins, John Hawkins (Naomi Andrews), James Hawkins, Ryan Hawkins, Kollene Drummond, Jennifer Drummond (Dean Berwick), David Drummond (Shelly), Garnet Drummond (Kelly), and her great grandchildren Evelyn, Lucy and Juliet Pearce, Leo and Ivy Drummond, Aida and Massey Drummond. Fondly missed by her niece Jane West and cousins Susanne, Marilyn and Debbie.
Private family arrangements entrusted to the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell. Memorial donations to St. Paul’s United Church in Milverton Ontario, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank or the charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
