Wendy Marie Melee Leopold

With a broken heart and great sorrow I have to announce the passing of Wendy Marie Melee (Leopold), my wife of 29 and a half years on Nov 16 2021. After a 5 year battle with Melanoma Cancer Wendy took her last breath and is no longer suffering in pain. She chose to spend her remaining time at home so she could wake up each morning with the sun beaming in the windows from across the bay.
Wendy was born to Victor Leopold and Bridgett Fitzgerald (Janes) on 20 June 1966 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. She grew up mostly in the Elmsdale, Lantz area and spent many weekends and summers in New Ross and at her grandparents cabin in Cape Breton. Wendy moved to Halifax as a young adult. We both had mutual friends and we met one night at a bar in Halifax by chance. Right from the get go I knew Wendy was someone special and little did I know that our first meeting would blossom into a 29 year long loving marriage. We were blessed with two fine young boys Kevin and Connor. Wendy was a caring, understanding and loving mother to them both.
Wendy is survived by me her loving husband, Bob; her two sons, Kevin and Connor; her father Victor Leopold; her mother Bridgett Fitzgerald; Step Parents Doreen Leopold and Kent Fitzgerald; her brothers Brian and Jamie, her sisters Carrolan and Sharon; her step sisters Dena and Holly; and many nieces and nephews.
Wendy joined the military the summer of 2000 and found her new calling as an Administration Clerk in the Army. The job fit her personality to a tee as she loved helping out the troops. She volunteered to deploy to Kabul, Afghanistan for 10 months as an instructor to train her Afghan counterparts in administration. Two years ago we decided to pack our bags and move to Newfoundland to work with the Rangers in Gander and we hoped to stay here and enjoy our retirement years in Glovertown and spend plenty of time at our cabin aka “Our Happy Place”.
We shared many great memories together. We always had fun and enjoyed each other’s company. I’ll miss our walks along the beach and in the woods looking for animal tracks, our cod fishing trips out in the bay, hanging out at Our Happy Place, and our hunting trips. Never one to shy away from cleaning up a moose or caribou after a successful hunt, what more could a man ask for! A beautiful wife who can get all dolled up for a night out on the town and the next day she can throw on the Camo clothes and go hunting with me.
I would like to single out the medical professionals from NL Central Health for the compassion and professional care given to Wendy while under Palliative Care at home. Nurses Amber Dyke, Beth Chaytor, Greg Banfield; and Dr Nancy Culleton; thank you very much.
Wendy may you rest in peace, you will forever be in my heart Babe. You will be sadly missed by so many friends and none more than myself, Kevin and Connor. Having to say good-bye hurts so much because our story wasn’t finished. I wish we had more time together, I loved loving you.
Wendy will be cremated and in her own words “She was going out hot”. There will be no wake or funeral service at the moment. At a future date and venue in the Halifax area we will have a gathering and a celebration of Wendy’s life.

  5. My deepest sympathy to Bob, Kevin, and Connor. Wendy and myself worked together in the Comptroller shop at 36 Cdn Brigade Group Headquarters, Wendy was a true professional and knew how to cut through the BS and tell it like it was. One day she was extremely busy producing a report and I came back from a meeting and pasted on some info of which Wend’s reply was “Yes dear”. Wendy kept on going not realizing what she had said. Wendy, I hope you aren’t getting too many speeding tickets riding your motorcycle in the clouds. Rest In Peace
