On Monday, December 6th, 2021, at the age of 70, just 2 days shy of her 71st birthday, Wendy Bangay passed away peacefully with her loving family in her presence. Wendy spent 38 loving years with her soulmate, Brian, and together, will be remembered and missed immensely by their 2 children, Heather and Andrew and son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Alicia. Wendy loved nothing more in her life than the time spent with her precious grandchildren, Chloe and Henry, and her spirit lives on in them.
Daughter of Mary and Walter Palmater of Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Wendy was the caring sister of Sheila (Don), Linda (James), Mike (May), Keith (Francis), Paul (Helene), Pamela (Ray) and Cathy (David). Wendy was an incredible sister-in-law and aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a true friend to countless people, who are all feeling this insurmountable loss of her beautiful soul.
Wendy had a fiery personality and it was this demeanour that bravely and courageously fought back a cancer diagnosis over the last 3 years. Wendy did not lose this battle, rather, she has passed the torch on and has joined an alumnus of other warriors. She was part of a clinical research trial at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and we thank her for helping pave the way in the fight to conquer cancer. The family would like to thank Dr. Rothenstein and the staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Dr. Leighl, Nurse Dianne and other medical staff at Princess Margaret, for their care and support throughout this time.
Wendy has gone home to the Creator in the Heavens above. Her spirit and soul is now the sun, moon, stars and the aurora in the sky. She is the soft falling snow in the winter, the rainbow after a spring rain, the warm smell of sweetgrass in the summer and the crisp autumn air as the leaves change around us in the fall. Her memory lives on in those who loved her the most, her family, friends and in the hearts of future grandbabies who we know she will watch over and protect.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking those who are wanting to express their grief to make a donation in her name to The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (thepmcf.ca) or to the Gord Downey & Chanie Wenjack Fund (downiewenjack.ca)
A celebration of life will be held in the spring and the family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks for the outpouring showing of love and support.
Don’t Cry for Me
Don’t cry for me now I have died, for I’m still here I’m by your side,
My body’s gone but my soul’s here, please don’t shed another tear,
I am still here I’m all around, only my body lies in the ground.
I am the snowflake that kisses your nose,
I am the frost, that nips your toes.
I am the sun, bringing you light,
I am the star, shining so bright.
I am the rain, refreshing the earth,
I am the laughter, I am the mirth.
I am the bird, up in the sky,
I am the cloud, that’s drifting by.
I am the thoughts, inside your head.
While I’m still there, I can’t be dead.

Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
-Robert Frost
