WEARMOUTH, Sue-Anne
September 5, 1955 – December 23, 2021
Sue-Anne Wearmouth of Cochrane, Alberta died on December 23, 2021, with family at her side.
Sue-Anne was the eldest of six children and took on the role with confidence, a leadership quality that continued through her life. While raising her two children she obtained a Diploma in Business Administration and then Interior Design. She went on to a successful career and business in the Interior Design industry – a sharp contrast to growing up working with her dad and siblings in the family demolition business. Sue-Anne worked with a few design firms but shone as an entrepreneur with her company Sawbrand Designs. Her talents and contributions to the industry were recognized this year, receiving a fellowship in the Interior Designers of Alberta.
Sue-Anne and her mare, Tess were inseparable for the past 15 years. With Tess she excelled in horsemanship. The two of them worked endlessly to perfect their teamwork in the arena and on the range. This year while struggling with failing health she was still able enough to attain Stage 8 of the Glenn Stewart equine program, win a little money in some ranch rodeos over the summer and receive the Cowgirl Up Award at the Cochrane Ranch Rodeo. It was both heart-breaking and heart-warming when Sue-Anne’s health was failing, she took her last ride, and then graciously handed over the reins, ensuring Tess went to a good home where she can continue her work.
Sue-Anne volunteered for many different associations, schools and events including the Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon Committee for 15 years. She was an avid skier and instructor for many years.
If you know the Wearmouth name, you know she has many loving siblings and cousins but of note, she was predeceased by her father and mentor, Bill in 1997. She is survived by her mom, Sue Robinson, children Jessica and Grant Belbin and grandchildren, Drew, Mara and Kai. With such a diverse set of interests, Sue-Anne had many friends in many circles, in particular the “B-55s”, her gang from high school who continue to be life-long friends.
In lieu of flowers please consider Sue-Anne’s charities: The Josephine Wearmouth Memorial Doctorial Scholarship at the UofC, The Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Fountain and, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
A Celebration of Sue-Anne’s life will be held in the first week of January. Please re-visit this page over the next days as an update on the service will be posted here.
