Wayne McGregor
It is with broken hearts we announce Wayne McGregor has passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 16, 2021, 6 days after his 82nd birthday.
Wayne was born on May 10, 1939 in Fort William to Pearl and Harry McGregor and grew up in the family home on Marks Street. Many of his friends, including the Speer boys also called it home.
Wayne met his wife Barbara and they fell in love and were married on February 29, 1964.
Wayne spent the majority of his working life at Manitoba Pool Elevators and was heavily involved in union activity. He rose to the position of Union President, always taking care of his union brothers.
He was an avid fisherman and also loved camping and hunting with friends and family. His biggest joy was having the kids and grandkids over every Sunday for spaghetti dinner, swimming and saunas. Papa portrayed a gruff rugged exterior but was truly a big, loveable teddy bear on the inside and will be missed dearly but all who knew him.
Wayne was a long time Elks member and also enjoyed being the “chief cook and bottle washer” during the Elks hot dog feeds for minor hockey. He also volunteered his time George Jeffries Centre Soap Box Derbies.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his sons Stephen, and Harold (Val), his grandchildren Sara, Devin, and Jordan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Harry, his mother Pearl, sister Shirley Anderson, brother Robert, and grandson Bruce.
