Warren Fredrick Richter
It is with great sadness that the family of Warren Fredrick Richter announces his passing in the early hours of June 14th in his 82nd year.
Warren (Rick) will be forever remembered by Norma (Miller), loving wife of 60 years and his children Eric(and daughter in law Cheryl) living in Rollo Bay, PEI, Peter residing in Cobden, ON and Mike (and daughter in law Darlene) residing in Cochrane, AB. He will be missed by grandchildren Shannon, Jasen (and wife Feier), Ian, Erin and Gideon and great grandson Aiden.
Predeceased by parents (Ivan and Marguerite Richter) and brother Lloyd, survived by brothers and sisters Bruce, Doris, Danny and Gwen.
Warren attended high school in Forest, ON, graduated grade 12 and immediately struck out for Nova Scotia to join Her Majesties Royal Canadian Navy,serving most of his term on destroyers, including the “Algonquin, Annapolis, St Croix andHuron”. He serviced many deployments around the world including in the Mediterranean, Canadian Artic, North Sea and even during the Cuban Missile of October 1962.
In 1966, the family relocated to Petawawa, ON where he joined the research facilities of Atomic Energy of Canada in the Health Physics Branch.One of his proudest accomplishments was the development and patent of the TLD badge utilized by many of our Canadian medical radiology professionals.
The latter part of his life was spent with family (and cows) at the farm in Rankin, Ontario. He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed many recreational activities with friends and family, including boating, canoeing,open water and ice fishing, hunting, camping and photography. Several of his favorite pictures are part of Warren’s page posted with the Murphy Funeral Home.
He developed quite a reputation as the “local repair wizard”, able to repair any electronic gadgetry deemed irreparable by the manufacturer, including electric fencers, microwaves, electronic vehicle ignition systems, washing machines, home heating systems, even computers. The list seemed endless, if it did not work, Warren took it on as a personal challenge to get it working again.
Warren also stepped up and gave of his personal time to numerous community projects and events during his life,including championing and chairing the Rankin Community Fire Hall project, completing income returns for the VON and was a decade long participant in theCanadian Orthopedic Foundation fundraiser“Hip, Hip Hooray”, and fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Memorial donations can be made to either the Canadian Orthopedic Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service for Warren will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 296 Isabella Street, Pembroke, on Tuesday June 22nd at 2:00 p.m. allowing family and friends to remember and celebrate Warren’s time with us.
DUE TO THE CURRENT RESTRICTIONS OF COVID-19 MANDATES, A LIMITED NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE PERMITTED IN THE FUNERAL HOME AT ANY GIVEN TIME – FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE FUNERAL. Please feel free to bring your own face mask or one will be supplied to you at the Funeral Home.
