Teresa Ellen Walsh passed away suddenly on April 25, 2021 due to complications from non-Covid-related pneumonia. Her best friend Tom Johnston, was by her side.
Teresa was born on December 3, 1961, the fourth in a family of seven children: Kathy, Jo Ann, Pat, Teresa, Mary K, Tim, and Barbara. A tomboy who loved the outdoors, Teresa loved to pack a lunch of ketchup sandwiches and ride her bike through the forests surrounding her childhood home in Fort St. John. She was a sociable girl with a great sense of humour.
Teresa loved and respected her parents and was an important caregiver to them in recent years. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Walsh, in October of 2020 and her mother, Margo Walsh, in April 2021.
Teresa was very kind-hearted and generous, always interested in learning about other people’s lives. She was the type of person who would buy a sandwich for a homeless person. She loved to cook and no family dinner was complete without a tray of Teresa’s famous cabbage rolls. She was all about hospitality and spent much of her early years working at some of Edmonton’s finest restaurants including the Mayfair Golf and Country Club, Side Track Cafe, The Creperie, The Sawmill and Parkallen Restaurant. She was such a talented waitress that she received an award for being one of the top servers in Edmonton.
One day while working at the Sidetrack Cafe, Teresa met Tom, the guy who would become her lifelong companion. He was a kindred spirit who also loved the outdoors. Over the next two decades, they spent countless hours together under the stars, cooking something awesome over a campfire.
In her later years, Teresa went back to school and trained in Occupational Health and Safety. Her job took her all the way across Canada to Nova Scotia and up to the Northwest Territories, which she loved. She enjoyed her work and spoke fondly about her colleagues.
Teresa connected deeply with children and would often pick up thoughtful gifts like handmade moccasins for the kids she loved. She was especially close to her niece, Delaney, and her neighbour’s children Maya and Honesty.
When the pandemic restrictions allow it, her family will be having a Celebration of Life for Teresa and will update this announcement with more details.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation in Teresa’s memory to the Make-A-Wish Canada Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to children and aims to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Teresa would love that.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Walsh Teresa Ellen April 25 2021..
