Obituary of Wallace Sheppard
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Wallace Sheppard, who passed away at his home in Lewisporte on August 4, 2021. Wallace was born on August 29, 1943 on Indian Islands, where he spent most of his early years before being relocated to Stag Harbour (Fogo Island) with his parents and brother as part of the Province’s resettlement program.
Wallace met his future wife Pearl Rideout in King’s Point while teaching in Harry’s Harbour in 1961. They were married the following year and began to raise a family in Stag Harbour before moving to Embree in 1977. He worked hard at various jobs to support his family in the fishery, marine shipping, construction and carpentry, eventually retiring from Abitibi-Price in 2001.
He had a love for the traditional way of life with fishing for cod and mussels, hunting for seals, sea birds, and moose, berry picking and cutting wood, all with Pearl at his side – any excuse to take the boat out through Notre Dame Bay or up in the country south of Grand Falls. He instilled these values on his family along with a strong work ethic and having a laugh with those around him.
Left to mourn are his wife Pearl, five children, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-children, and a long list of relatives and friends. Wallace was predeceased by his father Harold (1984), mother Stella (2010), and brother Cyril (2014)
Resting at Families funeral Home, Lewisporte with visitation on Friday August 06 from 7-9 pm.
Funeral service will take place from the funeral home on Saturday, August 7 at 2 pm for invited guest only due to covid restrictions. Interment to follow at the Community Cemetery in Embree.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Wallace
