Obituary
Virginia Ewasko (Duchominsky) was born in Ozerna, MB on April 11, 1934. She attended school at the Pulvers Lake, Manitoba. At a very young age Mom started working as a housekeeper/nanny for Steve and Helen Derhak of Sandy Lake, then later for Grills in Strathclair.
Mom met and married John Ewasko, and raised 5 children on a farm near Erickson, MB. She leaves to mourn her children Theresa (Dick), Carl, Lloyd (Willine), Loretta (Gary Goertzen), and Chris. 9 grand children, 10 great grandchildren and extended families, sister Lil Bartmanovich of St. Norbert, brother Peter (Liz) Duchominsky of Sanford, sister-in-law Janice Duchominsky of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews that will always remember her amazing donuts, chicken soup and endless supply of food and love.
Mom was predeceased by her Parents Paul and Katherine Duchominsky (Goletz), brother and sister-in-law Wesley and Edna Duchominsky, sister Annie, brother Michael Duchominsky, daughter-in-law Marie and brother-in-law Adam.
Mom enjoyed the simple life, her family, her garden, cooking and baking. She loved to pick berries and always made sure our cellar was full of amazing canned fruit, pickles and vegetables. She had a big heart, and always made sure that you never left the house hungry or empty handed.
Mom was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when she turned 40, even through all the pain she managed to always be strong and do the best she could. She never complained, no matter how bad she felt. In 1997 when things were too difficult to handle on the farm she moved to Gladstone with her daughter and grand children. In 2001 she moved to her own apartment at Centennial apartments. She loved it there and built some truly amazing friendships. She loved the compassion, laughter, and friendship she shared with the staff there and grew an exceptionally special bond with her “Guardian Angel” and “Funny Face”. Mom was always willing to share her stories of gardening and life on the farm in the old days with who ever wanted to listen.
The love she received from staff during her time at Centennial was one we are and will forever be so grateful for. There will always be a special place in our hearts for the staff that truly, and unconditionally cared for mom during her time in Centennial and TCM.
Mom touched many lives, and those that took the time to get to know her, loved her deeply. Mom’s love, stories, “spicey” comments, and beautiful smile will be missed by all.
