Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the loss of Violet, who passed away peacefully in her sleep early on the morning of Saturday, January 9, 2021 at MacTaggart Place, Edmonton at the age of 91 years.
Vi was predeceased by her father, Alfred Fidgett; her mother, Annie Fidgett, nee Hopwood; her brother, George Fidgett and her daughter, Sonja Kretzschmar. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Lindgren; daughter Lynda Shockey (Harley); daughter Brenda Reid (Mike); son Roger Lindgren (Cheri); son-in-law, Tony Kretzschmar and sister Kathleen McDowell. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be dearly missed by many close friends and extended family connections.
Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Vi later moved to Edmonton where she felt she had a greater opportunity to start and advance a career. She quickly found a position with the Alberta Teacher’s Association, where she would spend her entire work life.
While attending the First Church of God in Edmonton, she would meet her future in-laws which would lead her to meet Ken and they would marry in 1954. Throughout the years, Vi was very much involved in the Church, as a Sunday School teacher, to song ministry and ladies’ groups, just to name a few. Her spiritual commitment reflected a personal depth of faith and was evident in both her character and behaviour, which continued throughout her entire life. Her unbridled compassion touched many lives. Vi had a great interest in people. No matter where she went, both here and abroad, she would meet a stranger who quickly became a friend.
Ken and Vi always loved family vacations which began with camping, then with their trailer and later their motorhome. As their children began families of their own, they built a cabin at Pigeon Lake as a family gathering place they enjoyed for many years. Later, numerous international destinations became places where their family would once again come together. Locales such as China, India, the Maldives, England, Sweden and Italy were enjoyed.
On Friday, January 15, interment was held following a private graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Stewart Combs of First Church of God, Edmonton. A Memorial Service will be held at a yet to be determined future date.
Donations in memory of Vi may be made to First Church of God, Edmonton or a charity of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Violet Georgina Lindgren 2021..
