Victoria’s Obituary
The family of the late Victoria Demchuk announce her passing at the Regina General Hospital on September 14, 2021, at the age of 79 years.
Vicky was born on February 27, 1942, to Anton and Olga (nee Kuzmar) Prokopetz in the Buchanan District, SK. She grew up on the farm and attended Dobronoutz School, then later moved to the hamlet of Buchanan, SK. On July 22, 1957, she married Tony Demchuk and they resided on the family farm at Canora, SK. Vicky and Tony were blessed with two children, Ken and Darlene.
Skilled in the kitchen, Vicky always enjoyed preparing large meals for any social gatherings and made sure no one ever left the table feeling hungry. She would always obtain any cookbook that organizations were selling whether school, church, or curling rink, which resulted in a collection of cookbooks, as well as recipes from newspapers or magazine clippings.
Vicky also loved gardening and made sure the garden was hoed and weed free. She was very fond of her white peony plant and always looked forward to spring when her flowers began blooming.
For a number of years, Vicky was employed with Canora Gateway Coop, where she worked until retirement. During her retirement years, she enjoyed having coffee with the local ladies and going out for supper. She also enjoyed spending time with her large dog, Puppy, and her Jack Russell, Charlie.
This past year, her health deteriorated, and she became a resident of the Canora Gateway Lodge, where she continued to reside until her passing on September 14, 2021. Vicky will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Vicky was predeceased by her parents, Olga and Anton Prokopetz; husband, Tony; and her brothers, Jack, Walter and Mike.
She is survived by her children, Ken and Darlene (Byron); grandchildren, Christine (Kevin) Baluk and Alicia (Dean) Hudye; great-grandchildren, Addison Baluk and Emily Baluk; brother, Joe Prokopetz and sister, Marie Churney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Private Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Velda Dahlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Canora Cemetery.
