Vernon Tremaine Carey
Bras d’Or
It is with broken hearts and sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Vernon Tremaine Carey, Bras D’or, NS., age 69 on Wednesday September 8th, 2021, with his loving brothers and sister by his side.
Born on February 28th, 1952, Vernon grew up in Cape Breton and in his early years he worked on the lake boats before heading West to Calgary in 1981. He spent many years in Calgary and Fort MacMurray working as an Operator in the Local 955 Union and was also a proud member of Local 92 Union. He returned to the home of his heart, Cape Breton, in 2016.
Vernon was a talented musician and singer who played many instruments by ear and he never missed a chance to play at Saturday’s Circle of Friends at the Florence Legion. Vernon loved music, old cars, a good party, and his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by the daughters he was so proud of, Londa (Lars) Olesen and Sacha (David) Carey and his grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Kyle, Isla, Harper and Hazel. He is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters, Wayne (Rose), Brian (Arlene), Kevin (Leslie), Billy (Gina), Carl (Lillian), Sarah (Wayne), Darlene (Melvin), Brenda (Wayne), & Melody (Glen). He also had many nieces and nephews who love and miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe-Joe & Dorothy Carey and his brothers Lawrence, Jude, Lester, and Sheldon, and his brother-in-law Wayne Dealhoy.
Vernon was a man with many friends who he loved. Special thanks to Paulette, Yvonne and Patricia for being such a great support to Vernon during the past years. Many thanks to the Circle of Friends: Florence Legion for allowing Vernon to do what he loved most. Thank you to the hardworking doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for helping keep Vernon comfortable in his final hours.
At his request, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Parish Church in Bras d’Or at 10:30am, following which, a family burial will take place.
