Obituary of Vera Peake
Vera Anna Peake born May 25, 1922, in Forestburg, Alberta was taken home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2021.
Vera was the oldest of 7 children born to Nels and Ollie Swaren and spent her entire life in the community of Pleasington District, Forestburg, and Galahad.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband William, his parents Jack and Dora, his sisters Mary (John), Betty (Danny), her brothers Willard, Floyd, Ed, and sister Emily. She leaves to grieve her passing brother Howard (Leona), sister Leona, sisters-in-law Donna and Jen; children Ed (Kathy), Marion, and Dora (Garth); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Being a descendant of hearty Norwegians who came to Alberta in 1905, Mom never shied away from, or complained about, hard work; be it raising a family on a mixed farm milking cows, growing a garden, hauling grain, delivering the mail, keeping an immaculate house, cooking delicious meals, along with endless laundry, ensuring we were ready for school each day and Sunday School every Sunday; add to that the “retirement years” of running the Galahad Motel; and still always had time for friends and trips to B.C. to visit family.
She dedicated 35 years of faithful volunteering to the Galahad Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary; now known as the Galahad Care Centre, it is where her final journey with Alzheimer’s Dementia was. We are so grateful for the wonderful care she received and are comforted by the love shown to her as she hummed her way through the better part of this past year.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Galahad Auxiliary or a charity of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Vera
