TODD, Vera (nee Byberg) passed away on March 9, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents Hilmar and Erica Byberg and her husband Donald Todd. Vera is survived by her children, James (Janet), Karen (Zak), David (Paul) and Brenda (Masaru deceased). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kim, Lindsey (Shervin), Samantha, Alexander and David Shinya, as well as five great-grandchildren, Ella, Carter, Grant, Penelope and Ramona.
Vera was an R.N. for many years and in her working life was employed at numerous hospitals, nursing homes and towards the end of career as a palliative care nurse. She would also not-so-discreetly “supervise” the visiting nurses that assisted her in her home care needs in her later years and became a “character” in their minds. “We didn’t do it that way” or “are you sure you are doing that right” were common phrases heard by these patient nurses.
Vera was a longstanding member of Stamford Lane United Church and Senior Choir, Tri-M, UCW Women’s group, Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Phi. She also belonged to numerous other groups during her retired years: Niagara Library book clubs, the sewing group at church, J Singers, Red Hat Ladies. Vera loved to knit, embroider, quilt, weave and garden and as a result, all her children and grandchildren have a creative flair in one way or another. Vera loved to travel during her lifetime, and now, she is on a different journey.
Special thanks to the palliative care nurses on Brock Ward of GNGH for care of our mother at the end of her life’s journey and to Reverend Harvey Tobey. Donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Canadian Cancer Society. Due to current circumstances, a celebration of life will be held at a later date and we look forward to seeing you and sharing your memories at that time.
