Obituary
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Tom Chalmers. He
passed away peacefully due to kidney failure on Tuesday, October 19th
with his wife Jacki by his side. Tom was born and grew up in
Vancouver, BC. He had a sister and a younger brother, but he was
always his Mother’s Son!! He went to school in New Westminster to
Grade 12, graduated and worked in a mill for a while. Then in 1953 he
joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served his country until 1973.
Tom and Jacki were married in 1956 and had 4 children by 1964.
Laurie, Rand, Brett & Brad, with 7 grandchildren and 4 great
grandchildren.
Following his stint in the Navy, Tom then went commercial fishing with
his sister and brother-in-law and after 2 – 3 years had his own boat
built and continued fishing for a few more years. There were a couple
of rough years, so he rejoined the Navy for 4 to 5 years more. Retired
again, and then he went to work at the dockyard until 1995. Tom retired yet again
and he and Jacki moved to Oliver in 1996 and then to Summerland in
2014. At first, he wasn’t keen on moving here to Summerland, but grew
to like it and his friend Gordon was here.
