Tobin Ernie 2021

Tobin, Ernie
Our beloved Ernie Tobin passed away peacefully
on June 30th, 2021.
He was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia in July of 1930, to David and Pauline (O’Handly)
with brothers Douglas, Russell, Connie, Fritz and Gerald, and sisters Audrey, Margaret and Vera.
Ernie spent his career as an engineer with Canadian Pacific, along the rails making several lifelong friends.
Moving to Toronto in the 1950s, he married Chuckie (Mary Dolores) Merritt in August of 1952
and they had two children, Denise and David.
They retired in the late 1980s and relocated to Wellington, Ontario and Estero, Florida.
Ernie was known as the “quieter” half of Chuckie and Ernie, but had a great dry wit and a charming sense of humour.
Always up for a good laugh, lobster dinners, “Cape Breton” music, Don Messer’s Jubilee, corned beef and cabbage
and his beloved spaghetti and meatballs.
For years he loved his long walks, watching good movies, Hockey Night in Canada and the Toronto Blue Jays.
He adored his granddaughter Lauren, watching every Disney Classic endlessly with her and
sharing a number of exciting travel adventures. He loved home, and his greatest love of all, Chuckie.
The family wish to thank all of the wonderful friends at Wellington on the Lake
who have provided so much friendship, help, support, love and laughter all these years.
We cannot thank you enough.
A Memorial Service will be held in late summer.
