Obituary
Timothy Robert John Cumming was born in Edmonton, Alberta on February 1, 1947 to John and Mae Cumming. He grew up riding cutting horses with his dad, helping out at his dad’s car dealership, and causing a great deal of work for his grandmother, Isabella Cumming. From an early age, Tim was known for his boundless curiousity about the world around him and how things worked. Tim was also known for his great (but never brief) storytelling.
Tim was fortunate to meet Linda (nee Gibson), the love of his life and his best friend, early in his life. During their nearly 56 years of marraige, Tim and Linda built a loving home filled with much hilarity and good times. Tim was an adoring husband to Linda, a proud father to Robert (Kari Horn) and Tara-Lee (Jeff) Vergouwen, and a wise and doting Grampy to four treasured grandchildren: Amy, Sophia, John and Olivia. On November 4th, 2021, Tim passed away holding the hand of his sweetheart and surrounded by his loving family.
After graduating with a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Calgary, Tim enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a Petroleum Landman, before finally retiring at the age of 70. Tim was known throughout his career for his integrity and professionalisim, serving on the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen for many years, including taking on the roles of Treasurer, Vice President, and President. He was honoured for his contributions to the profession in 1996, receiving the Herb Hughes Memorial Award for Service. He also served as a Director for the American Association of Petroleum Landmen. Many professional colleagues became lifelong friends to Tim and Linda.
Tim’s greatest pride was his marraige and family. In their early years, the family took many epic road trips in their motorhome, camping, cross-country skiing, hiking and year round picnics. Tim loved driving far and wide, taking his family to their vacation home in Sandpoint, Idaho where they made great memories skiing at Schweitzer, mountain biking, sailing and exploring the area. Tim and Linda loved to travel and took trips all over Canada, the USA, UK, Italy and France, often with lifelong friends and neighbours. Annual trips to Palm Springs and Maui (sun, fun and all-day snacks) created many special memories when they met up with various family members and met many new friends.
In addition to Linda, Robert, Tara-Lee and their families, Tim is survived by sister Patti(Tom) Evans, his dear Aunt Madeleine Cumming, Beverly Easton, Brian (Joyce) Gibson, Terry Carlyle, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
