Obituary of Thomas Andrew MacIntyre
It is with great grief and much sadness that we announce the death of Thomas Andrew MacIntyre (76) of St. Thomas, ON. After a decades-long fight against chronic illness, Tom passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep, on March 3, 2021. Predeceased by wife Bonnie (née McLean), and sons Shawn and Shannon. He is survived and will be dearly missed by wife Nancy (née Porter) of 35 years, daughters Jessica and Christine, son-in-law Avery, sister Arlene, friend and neighbour Jay Connor, as well as countless friends with whom he maintained close connections throughout his life.
An avid outdoorsman and veteran OPP officer, deeply respected for his strength of character, kindness and loyalty to those whom he loved, and always as funny as he was whip-smart, Tom lived a full and storied life. Born in May 1944 to Arnett and Millie MacIntyre in Toronto, Tom spent the majority of his childhood and youth playing hockey and working on the family farm outside of Frankford.
Tom served as an OPP officer in several jurisdictions throughout Ontario, including Thessalon and Moose Factory, and in 1985 was recruited to the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office. He continued to work as a fire investigator in both the northern and southwestern regions of Ontario until retiring in 1995. To keep busy and social during retirement, he worked part-time as a fire investigator for Origin and Cause.
Every summer for over thirty years, Tom and his best friends would travel to Lac Seul for an annual houseboat fishing trip. Those closest to Tom will always remember his love of wood fires, the wealth of knowledge and experience he carried, his infectious smile and his endless humour.
A memorial service will be held at Denning’s of West Lorne on Friday, March 12th. 202 Main Street West Lorne, Ontario, N0L 2P0. The service will also be available via livestream from Denning’s website. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Children’s Hospital, War Amps or SPCA. 1. To Tom’s family,
We fondly remember Tom from our time in Moose Factory. He is remembered for his infectious grin and great sense of humour. Tom always made time for friends, stopping by for a coffee or a chat.
He was especially well respected as an OPP officer by all the community. You know you were in good hands if Tom was looking out for you.
We drink a toast to him and are grateful to have had the privilege of calling him a friend. He is gone but not forgotten. Hilda Power & Jeff Scott
