An exemplary father and a devoted Christian died on Monday, October 25, 2021. Our sorrow is lessened knowing he has joined our beloved mother in heaven.
Thomas was born in Trochu, Alberta, on July 13, 1927, but spent most of his childhood in Bruderheim, Alberta. His parents, Hugh Frances and Agnes Kennedy raised Tom and his older brother, Mervin in a loving home. Tom attended St. Anthony’s College. Upon graduation he joined the City of Edmonton. He spent his career working in Human Resources, becoming Director of Administration for various departments. Tom met Kathleen Grace Bradshaw at a CYO club meeting and he married her on September 4, 1954. They maintained a strong, devoted, loving marriage for sixty years. Upon retirement they enjoyed time together at the lake cabin or at their house in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dad was a wonderful father. He was the person who taught us to swim and packed up the “girls” to play in the snow while he coached junior hockey on outside rinks. Wanting to spend more time with his children he learned to ski and many happy family moments were spent on mountain trails with the whole family. He was always willing to drive the motorboat along the lake shore so his children could water ski.
Left to lovingly remember Thomas are his children: Mary Kennedy, Monica (Garth) Comba, Karen (Mark) Perry, Kevin (Terry) Kennedy, and Raymond (Rita) Hegerat. He was grandfather to Thomas (Meghan) Comba, Meredith Comba, and Nate Kennedy. At Thanksgiving he met and held his great granddaughter, Aspen Comba, for the first time. He shall also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
For the last year, Thomas resided at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Millwoods. The family would like to thank the kind, caring staff who took the time to talk to our father and to be involved in his life.
Dad was one of the most optimistic people to walk this earth. For the last five years of her life our mom suffered from Alzheimer’s. Hoping to further Alzheimer’s research, the family asks that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories at 305, 10430-61 Avenue NW, Edmonton AB T6H 2J3 in our father’s name.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Resurrection Church, 10555-50a Street NW, Edmonton. Due to Covid restrictions, there is a maximum of 50 people that may attend.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Thomas Vernon Kennedy 2021..
