Thomas Tom Lawrence Hogan June 5 1946 December 16 2021

Thomas (Tom) Lawrence Hogan
June 5, 1946 – December 16, 2021

Thomas Lawrence Hogan (Tom) – 75 of Halifax passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Portuguese Cove and was the son of the late Vincent and Eileen (Martin) Hogan.
Until his retirement Tom had done many jobs – but most notable to his own memory was working up north in Yukon for Department of Supply and Service fighting forest fires every summer – he did this for seven summers – he loved the Yukon and he loved his “family” from the Yukon. After working up north – Tom started working at the Halifax Shipyards as a rigger where he worked for 22 years until he retired.
To say Tom loved the outdoors would be an understatement. As a young boy he acquired a bush camp on Third Pond or “Third” or “the Camp” as he always referred to it. From that moment on Tom would spend the majority of his time in the woods. He loved trout fishing, he was a trapper and a hunter. Tom loved his solitary time back the camp but most of all he loved having the company of his friends and family back Third with him to share these moments of fishing and hunting with him or just spending time in the woods. Sitting beside the wood stove at the camp playing cards and having a glass (or two) of rum was a regular occurrence as well. There are many memories and stories of time spent at the Camp and Tom would love to reminisce about these times and he would share the stories as well – and of course he remembered everything because he had the log books to prove it!
There isn’t a piece of land from Herring Cove, to Sambro, to Williamswood to Harrietsfiled that Tom hasn’t walked or explored – if the wilderness could cry it would be shedding a tear with Tom’s passing and the loss of an old friend.
Tom lived his life to his own tune and it was a very interesting life – too much to put into words. But to those who know him know the stories and the place they would have in Tom’s life. He will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Gallant, son Edward Hogan, Spryfield, and daughter Eileen Hogan (Maykel Nunez), Herring Cove. Three granddaughters Grace Hogan, Elisenn Nunez-Hogan, and Malina Nunez-Hogan; two sisters Theresa Ells and Kathleen Hogan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Peggy) Hogan and a brother Joseph Hogan.
A Farwell Service to Tom will be held at a later date once Covid restrictions are lifted and details will be provided at that time. In Memory of Tom, please pay an act of kindness forward to someone in need.
