Tom Burnett passed away October 9,2021 at the age of 97.
Survived by his beloved wife Shirley Burnett (Jameson), children Lynda Akins (Barry), Tom Burnett (Brenda), Susan Pearson (David), grandchildren Kim Akins (Arthur), Donna Furletti (Roberto), T.J Burnett (Janice), Chris Pearson (Melody), Melanie Davison (Duane), 13 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great – Great Grandchild, brother Ron Burnett, and sister in-law Barbara Remington.
Tom joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 17 and served on H.M.C.S Assiniboine and H.M.C.S Algonquin during WWII.
He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the High Seas in the Atlantic Zone and Continental Europe until his discharge in December 1945.
Tom came home on leave and married his beloved sweetheart Shirley Jameson on his 21st Birthday on April 28,1945, beginning their life together and raising three children. At the age of 23 he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department serving over 31 years, retiring as a Captain in 1978.
Tom and Shirley enjoyed many years of retirement spending winters in Mesa Arizona and summers at their cottage in Spruce Bay, Manitoba.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Deer Lodge Center for their wonderful care and compassion during Tom’s brief stay on Tower 5.
