THOMAS Blanche 1927 2021

THOMAS, Blanche
1927 – 2021
THOMAS, Blanche (Plove)
It is with great sadness that the family of Blanche Thomas announces that she has chosen her wings
Blanche, 94 of Kirkland Lake passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, peacefully with her children by her side, after embracing nearly a century of life.
Blanche was born in Belgium to Joseph & Juliette Plove on August 31, 1927. She made her mark in history as one of the hundreds of war brides that traveled from Europe to Canada on SS Aquitania after World War II in 1946 with her firstborn, Laurette. Arriving in the small town of Swastika, via train dressed in nothing short of urban chic she immediately called Chaput Hughes her home and embraced Northern Ontario in all ways she knew how. Arriving with her only known language being Flemish, she taught herself very quickly her second language of English. While raising her 4 children, Laurette, Edward, Diane, and Karen, they embraced the simplicity of family and endured all things life has to offer, eventually calling us the family we are today.
Blanche was a cultured soul who enjoyed traveling back home to Belgium and exploring the world, usually taking on most of these adventures solo and embracing each moment. She was sure to capture every minute and detail to share upon her return with family and friends. In her simpler moments, she enjoyed crocheting many creations, for her family to use and enjoy, from blankets to dishcloths and socks and mittens. She enjoyed good food and good company, but nothing beat the presence of her family and the traditions they shared. She proudly embraced her AA status for over 45 years.
Blanche was predeceased by her husband Viv Thomas; her daughter Laurette MacDougall, her beloved brother in Belgium, Leonard (Susan), and her in-laws Nora Ladouceaur (Fern), Pearl Waugh (Fred), Roy Thomas. Still left to mourn is her sister-in-law, Margaret Thomas.
Blanche leaves behind to embrace her memory, her children, Edward Thomas (Cindy), Diane Gould (David), Karen Bouckley (Chris), and beloved nephew in Belgium, Luc Plove. (Carina). Along with her dearest grandchildren, Vivian Clifford (Jeff), Kerry Laflair (Donny), Rod MacDougall , Amanda MacDougall (Nick), Shawn Thomas (Erin), Julie Durling (Len), Sherry Fraser (David), Robert Tennant, and Shelby-lyn Bouckley and Dezmond Bouckley (Emily). And her great-grandchildren,
Sean Clifford (Mallory), Jade Weisflock, Savannah Carriere (Nathan), Shauna Weisflock, Grace MacDougall, Logan Laflair, Nicholas Aiello, Alexandra Thomas, Amy Thomas, Erika Thomas, Matthew Benoit, Lauren Benoit, and Sierra Fraser. Along with her adoring great great grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicholas, Sophia, and Maverick.
We welcome all family and friends for a Celebration of Life which will be held at 221 Rogick Road, Kenogami on Saturday, October 16th at 1:00 p.m. with a service to follow starting at 2:00 p.m.
Burial Service will be held on Monday, October 18th at 11:30 a.m. at the Kirkland Lake Cemetery.
