Terry Luckhart Sunday December 27th 2020

After 94 years of a life well lived, Terry Luckhart passed away, peacefully, at home on December 27, 2020. It is with deep sorrow and much love that her family mourns her passing. Terry is survived by her children Cathy (Neil), Maureen, Karen, Kevin (Diane), and Kelly, and grandchildren Amelia (Spencer), Michael, Kendra and Kieran. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry.
Terry and her twin sister Diana were born in 1926 in Dublin, Ireland. Sadly, Diana died of pneumonia at 18 months of age. Terry experienced a lot in her life. At 10 years of age, she, her parents, her younger brother, Bob and sister, Mary, sailed on the Queen Mary, from Europe to New York, where her father was posted as an Irish diplomat.
In 1955, Terry’s father was the first person to sit at the United Nations representing Ireland. To give perspective to her long life, Terry was playing at the beach when the Hindenburg flew overhead on its historic final journey. She later lived in Ottawa, where she met and married, Harry, and they started a family. They soon moved to Toronto, where they lived for 17 years and completed their family. In 1968 they moved to Vancouver. Terry quickly became involved in church life where she developed many longterm friendships.
Terry worked as a teacher’s aide in Coquitlam, at Port Moody Library, where her knowledge of authors and books was well-utilized, and for over 20 years she volunteered at Eagle Ridge Hospital. She was a great cook, avid reader, knitter, and was still doing crossword puzzles daily. Anyone who knew Terry is aware that faith, family and friends were of utmost importance to her. She was happiest when family was together, and she always took a keen interest in her grandchildren. She lived a life of example to us – faith, courage, prayer, perseverance and grace. There are many things for which Terry will be remembered, but what we will never
forget is her kindness, giving spirit, and love of family. She will be deeply missed.
“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” In the words of St. Paul – this is our mother.
Our family has deep gratitude for Fr. Maciej, Fr. Scott and all her St. Clare family. We’re most thankful for your kindnesses, help and loving care of our Mum. You meant so much to her, and in turn to us.
An Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Funeral Mass for Terry was held with family on Dec. 30. Donations can be made to St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Coquitlam, or a charity of your choice.
