It is with heavy hearts that the family wishes to announce the passing of Sylvester (Syl) Victor Michaluk on November 15, 2021, 7 days short of his 89th birthday.
Sylvester was married for 66 years and is survived by his wife Olga (nee Bilyj); son Wayne (Ginette); daughters Joanne Kletchko and Donna Saganski (Paul); 7 grandchildren Nicholas Kletchko (Jennifer), Adam Kletchko (Amanda), Karla Holzer (Dylan), Matthew Saganski (Teagan), Jay Saganski, Kelsey Michaluk (Cody), and Katherine Michaluk (Justin); four great-grandchildren William, Victoria, Veronica Holzer, and Madison Kletchko; his sister Marieann Mochnacz (Al) and brother Mercil Michaluk (Donna); sister-in-law Jean Anderson (Ernie); as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Syl was predeceased by his daughter Bernice in infancy; parents Nicholas and Tena Michaluk; his brothers Sidney and Steve; and son-in-law Shane Seib.
Syl was the oldest of 5 children born and raised on the family homestead near Mink Creek, Manitoba.
Syl was employed with Saskatchewan Power Corporation and was one of the first Gas Servicemen in the province. He was an active member of the OCAW Union throughout his employment. Syl worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1992.
He raised a wonderful family who shared in his interest of sports and the Ukrainian culture. He was an avid reader and a meticulous collector of many things which kept him busy and brought him much joy even in his final days. Syl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was very proud of his family and will be dearly missed and forever remembered for his sense of humor and devotion to his family and friends.
Sylvester was equally proud of his Ukrainian Catholic faith. He was one of the founding members of St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Regina, SK. He was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and willingly took on leadership roles in the church. One of his most proud moments was having the distinction of being inducted into the Order of the Knights of St. Volodymyr.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina, SK. Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Athanasius Parish. Live Stream Link: website www.st-athanasius.ca or on Facebook at facebook.com/reginaukrainiancatholicnorth/live. Interment to be held at a later date in Riverside Memorial Park.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the St. Athanasius Memorial Fund, 55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina, SK or Parkinson Canada.
The Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Staff at the Wolseley Lakeside Care Home, Wolseley, SK for their loving and compassionate care.
