Susan Almonte
(May 13, 1970 – December 11, 2021)
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Susan Almonte (nee D’Andrea), beloved wife, loving mother, daughter and dear sister. She slipped away at home, surrounded in the loving arms of her family on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the age of 51 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born in Toronto, Sue was the loving daughter of Aldo and Marisa D’Andrea (nee Zavagno), beloved wife of Nino Almonte, loving mother to five beautiful children, Gloria, Aurora, Augustin, Maximilian and Xavier and dear sister to her siblings, Marina (Joe), Andy (Nathalie), Serena (Marco) and sister-in-law Josie (Dario ) and dear daughter to her father-in-law Umberto and her late mother-in-law Pina. Her many nieces and nephews, Matthew (Tneshia), Paul, Dalila, Jean-Paul, Veronica, Simon-Pierre, Stefania, Daniel, Nathan, Ella and her great niece Ava, will miss her immensely.
Sue loved to travel, and she also loved her Focolare family, spending much time in Loppiano, Italy. Upon completion of her University education, Sue spent two years teaching in France where she met Nino, the love of her life. Their romance continued upon their return to Canada and they were married in June of 1998.
As a teacher and vice-principal, she joined the faculty of Mary Mother of God School. There she spent her entire career teaching and mentoring many grateful students, including her five children. She was dedicated to the school and its faith centered educational values.
Sue will always be remembered for her dedication to her family and her catholic faith. We will never forget her smile, her enthusiasm for life and her incredible optimism. Nothing ever got her down, including her battle with cancer.
The Focolare family was always a great source of strength for Sue, most especially during her illness. The weekly Sunday rosary with the Focolare and her family always lifted her spirits and brought her great joy. She was a beautiful person who left us much too early and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Sue asked in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Mary Mother of God School: www.marymotherofgodschool.org/
