Steven Farquhar passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Innisfree Hospice in Kitchener at the age of 60. Survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jane Farquhar. Inspiring father of Alex Farquhar and Brittany Farquhar. Most caring and devoted son of Sally Farquhar. Treasured brother of Bob Farquhar (Candace Olenick) and Joy McLaughlin, and brother-in-law to Rob and Amanda McNaught. He will be especially missed by his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Predeceased by his brother Tim Farquhar, sister Susan McNaught, and father Robert Farquhar.
Born and raised in Kitchener, Steve was a man who thrived on being a part of a loving family and the community that surrounded him. A family man with a heart of gold, Steve was selfless and truly a member of the neighbourhood he lived in. In his early years, he travelled to numerous countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Fiji. He later settled in Waterloo with his partner in life Jane. Steve was an integral and loyal team member of 41 years at Caley Ortho Lab and retired upon his cancer diagnosis in 2019. He was a passionate landlord for over 25 years and dedicated his time to ensure all his tenants were in good care.
Steve had a passion for windsurfing, being the resident handyman, travelling, cooking, board games, biking, camping, beach days and supporting any of the Toronto sport teams. He was a walking encyclopedia and would share random facts and history knowledge any time he could. A man full of advice and always had a story to tell.
He stayed optimistic throughout his cancer journey and regardless of his outcome, wanted to contribute by participating in research studies and clinical trials to help future generations.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, Princess Margaret Hospital, Para-med Nursing, Waterloo Wellington LHIN, and Innisfree House hospice for the compassion, care, and kindness given to Steve and our family. A special thank you to Dr. Hamid Mithoowani, Dr. Glick, Dr. Geoffrey Liu, and Dr. Janet Zettel.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, October 22 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A private invite-only family and friends service will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, St. Jacobs. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. As per family’s request, everyone must be double vaccinated to attend.
