Cy grew up in Maynooth and at the age of 19 joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he served at Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia and spent 5 years as a naval communicator on peacekeeping operations aboard the HMCS Huron, York, Cornwallis, New Liskeard, Shelburne & Stodacona. It was during this time that he met the love of his life Viola, in Halifax. They were married and lived in Shelburne, Nova Scotia before moving back to Ontario where they raised a family. Cy worked until his retirement from General Motors in Oshawa in 1992. Cy kept busy around the family farm in Maynooth woodworking, gardening and spending time with his grandkids and family. He was also very involved with his church, helping to build and maintain the Word of Life Outreach school & church in Lake St. Peter.
Cy loved life, was never without a smile, and was very passionate about family and making this world a better place for everyone. He was truly amazed by the people that have helped him the last few years as he struggled with his health. Special thanks to Barry and Marylou, Iris & Dave, June Baragar, his nieces and nephews, and to the amazing nurses, doctors, PSWs and paramedics of North Hastings. As per Cy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment and a Celebration of Life will take place in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to CARE North Hastings, Heart & Stroke or the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to M.G. Daly Funeral Home, Maynooth.
