Sonia Fossey
October 07, 1947 – January 22, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sonia Joan Fossey (nee Danielson) at the age of 73. She was a wife, mother, sister, teacher, author and artist who touched the lives of many who knew her, and she will be truly missed.
Joan grew up in Atikokan with her sister Debbie and her parents George and Doris Danielson. She attended Lakehead University to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in English and got her teaching degree. She moved to Kingston and met her true love, Steven Fossey. They would spend the next 50 years building the most beautiful life together in Vermilion Bay. They bought their forever home, a cottage on Edward Lake and Joan decorated every room with antique furniture, Victorian touches and her vibrant paintings, created on canvas which Steve would lovingly and tirelessly build for her.
Joan was never happier than when her two children Symantha and Sean became a part of her life. It meant the world to her to be a mother and to be able to provide a childhood worthy of dreams, centred in nature and life at the lake.
Joan leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Steven, and her two children Symantha (Jason) and Sean (Cindy), and her 6 grandchildren Paul, Gavin, Sebastian, Riley and Amanda Joan. As well, she will be missed by her sister and best friend, Debbie and her niece Jen, and many cousins and friends. We miss her terribly but take comfort knowing that she is sharing old Swedish stories with her mom and dad who have been waiting for so long to embrace her again. Until we meet again.
A Graveside Service will take place in May 2021 at the Box Alder Cemetery in Devlin Ontario.
