Obituary
Sister Mildred Muldoon
(Sister M. Leonora)
December 29, 1926 to November 21, 2021
It is with sadness that The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie announce the death of Sister Mildred Muldoon (Sister M. Leonora) on November 21, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, North Bay, Ontario.
Sister Mildred was born in Beech Grove, Quebec, one of 10 children of Annie (nee Cooney) and Michael Joseph Muldoon (both predeceased). She is predeceased by her siblings, Lorena, Mae, Gladys, Monica, Doris, Francis, Albert, Michael, and James and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mildred entered the Congregation of The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie on February 2, 1945 from her home parish, St. Mary’s Church, Quyon, Quebec.
Mildred continued her studies after entering leading to a long and fulfilling career as teacher and elementary school principal. She taught in Schrieber, North Bay, Wikemikong, Thunder Bay and Nassau, and served as principal in Sault Ste. Marie and Sturgeon Falls.
Retirement afforded her the opportunity to pursue a new ministry – following hospital chaplaincy study, she ministered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Thunder Bay, the Sudbury General and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Blind River. Her final years of active ministry were spent at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Sudbury. It was here that she served in the home visitation program for seniors and home bound parishioners.
In 2005, Mildred moved to North Bay to live at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse.
Family was celebrated and a very important part of Mildred’s life. Mildred was an avid bridge player (teacher). She enjoyed cribbage, card playing (65 anyone?) and travelling and connecting with people from all parts of the world.
Sister Mildred will be received at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 29, 2021 with an Evening Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, Sacred Heart Chapel at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
During these unprecedented COVID times, it is with regret that The Sisters of St. Joseph will not have a public funeral liturgy. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Bay, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the works and ministries of The Sisters of St. Joseph would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.hillsidefuneral.ca.

Aunt Mildred was always such a strong woman of faith and intelligence. My Mom cherished her love and friendship. It’s a comfort to think she is together with her family again.
