Obituary of Silas Lloyd Clarke
Clarke Jr., Silas (Si) Lloyd
May 10, 1937 – November 23, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, and Grandad, Silas (Si) Clarke on November 23rd, 2021 at the age of 84. He will be forever missed by his devoted wife of 53 years, Maureen (Power); his three wonderful children Deanne (Steve), Geoff (Nadine), and Brad (Janice); and by his four grandchildren who absolutely adored him: Matthew, Jack, Brady, and Brody; all of whom were Grandad’s pride and joy!
He is survived by his brothers Claude (Alma), David (Leslie), and Gary (Sally); and is predeceased by his parents, Silas Sr. and Beatrice Clarke, his older sister Dorothy, and his younger brother Al.
For those who knew him, Si was a man of few words and would always tell it like he saw it, and many admired him for that trait. He was his own boss who believed in the importance of a hard day’s work. A true entrepreneur, he owned and operated Summit Developers Ltd in Corner Brook. Chances are you have stepped in, or driven on, one of many developments Si helped construct, including the province’s Arts and Culture Centers, the Gander Frazer Mall, several NL hospitals (including the Western Memorial in Corner Brook), schools in Conne River and Fogo Island, the Royal Trust building in St. Johns, and several sections of the TCH across Newfoundland.
As hard as he worked, he was as equally generous when it came to helping and giving to others; never wanting his generosity made public. Si loved to be around family and friends, and enjoyed entertaining at the family cabin for nearly four decades. The Clarke cabin at Pinchgut Lake, NL was the place that Si loved to be, a love which he passed down to his three children. He always welcomed everyone with a firm hand shake, a warm hug, a cold beer, and an honest opinion. During the spring, summer, and fall he would walk daily, often for hours and hours. During the winter he was an avid cross country skier who never travelled on beaten paths, preferring to break his own backcountry trails, much like he did in life.
With great appreciation, we give a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at both the Western Memorial Hospital (he called the nurses his ‘happy girls’) and the Palliative Care Unit for all your kindness and compassion. Many thanks to all our family, friends and neighbours for all your kindness and support during this time. It is truly appreciated. As show of sympathy, we ask that you please donate to your favourite charity.
On behalf of his family and friends who loved him, as Dad would say, ‘Take it Cool’.
Take it Cool, Dad.
As per the family’s wishes, Cremation is set to take place. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Silas
